Our Strategies

Kodiak manages four strategies, each named for a place or idea from the American wilderness. Most client portfolios combine two or more, weighted to the family's needs.

All four share one philosophy: study the numbers and the people, respect risk, and think about what could go wrong before what could go right.

Kodiak Sequoia : Income

Sequoia is built to produce dependable income. It holds dividend-paying stocks, bonds and other income-producing securities, chosen for the durability of their payouts rather than the highest current yield. It suits clients who draw on their portfolio to live.

Kodiak Redwood: Growth at a reasonable price

Redwood owns companies growing their earnings faster than the market, but only when the price makes sense. It aims for long-term growth without paying any price for a popular story.

Kodiak Glacier Bay: Deep value

Glacier Bay looks for businesses the market has given up on, priced well below what we believe they're worth. It requires patience and a willingness to look different from the index for long stretches.

Kodiak Pioneer: Long/short

Pioneer owns companies we expect to rise and sells short companies we expect to fall. The goal is returns that depend less on the direction of the overall market. Short selling carries additional risks, including theoretically unlimited losses, and Pioneer is available only to eligible clients.

Which strategy is right for me?

That depends on what your money needs to do. We'll recommend a mix after our first conversations, and we'll explain why.

All investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal. No strategy can guarantee a profit or protect against loss. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
